Terraforming Mars has been a science fiction dream for decades. The actual physics suggests it's vastly harder than commonly imagined, and a 2018 NASA-funded study concluded it's basically impossible with current or near-future technology.

Two questions decide whether Mars can ever be a real second home: can we re-engineer the planet, and can the human body survive years of radiation and low gravity? The science on both is more sobering than the pitch decks suggest.
