Why Do We Have Eyebrows? The Science and Evolution
Eyebrows serve a dual purpose that touches on both biology and behavior. They channel sweat, rain, and debris away from the eyes, protecting our vision in wet or dusty environments. But more importantly, eyebrows communicate emotion and intent across distances, making them crucial for social bonding and face recognition. Humans evolved progressively smaller brow ridges and more mobile eyebrows than our archaic ancestors, supporting increasingly complex facial expression and nonverbal conversation.
